Manufacturing area requirements change as the product
manufactured change. When large assembly items or
automated operations are normally performed, on/off
operation of the equipment can save considerable amounts
of energy (and money) without affecting productivity or
product quality.
Care should
be exercised when the controlled space is associated
with detail assembly or exacting inspection of parts.
On/off operation can often adversely affect productivity
or product quality. Here, an alternate to the LCM-IE,
the LCP series, should be considered to provide
continuous dimming functions.
If dimming
is not practical, the general lighting in a space can
use an on/off control as long as there is adequate and
proper task lighting for areas where detail work is to
be done.
If HID
lighting is to be used with automated controls, a proper
“Hold on time” is imperative to prevent short cycling of
the HID lamps. This short cycling prevents the lamp
from coming to its full operating temperature and
stabilizing, and can significantly shorten lamp life.
The LCM-IE provides a 30 minute “hold on timer” that
prevents this.
Manufacturing Space Operation
The first
person to arrive presses the OI button and starts the
system’s operation. If enough light is NOT passing
through the skylights, the lights will come on and stay
on for the hold on time. After the hold on time is
completed, the system will allow the fixtures to be
operated in the daylight mode.
As the
outside lighting increases and light passing through the
skylights reaches its off set-point and stays there for
a preset period of time (Time delay before operation),
the fixtures will turn off. If the outdoor lighting
comes to the on set-point and stays there for another
preset period of time, the lights will come back on.
If
fluorescent fixtures are used, the sequence is the same
except that the hold on time delay is shorter. If
fluorescent fixtures are used with a time clock and
sweep, the lights will flash at the end of the day and
go into a grace period. If the OI is pressed during
this grace period, an two hour sweep time extension will
occur.
At the end
of the sweep, lights will again flash, and the time can
again be extended. NOTE: FOR HID FIXTURES WITH TIME
CLOCK SWEEPS, USE THE LCMBL PRODUCT LINE WITH A WARNING
BEACON.
If after
hours access is needed, press the OI to be allowed a two
hour sweep. If two hours are not needed, press the OI a
second time to turn off the lights.
